Ugoszcz Parish, Poland (Bernsdorf, West Prussia)

From Ugoszcz Parish, were a group of related families who came to North America on the Leibig on 1 May, 1868. The passenger list includes people who departed from Hamburg, Germany and arrived to Quebec, Canada on the vessel Leibig, Captained by Bornholdt. Many of these people settled in Winona, Minnesota and their descendents settled in Walsh County North Dakota. This was information originally published in the Bismarck-Mandan Genealogical Society newsletter in 1976, Pages 8 thru 24 and was contributed by Robert Gruchalla of Minto, North Dakota.

Some of the families included Peter Zwicki, Jacob Lipinski, John Czapiewski, and Stanislaus Werra, who settled in Winona, Minnesota. Andreas Maschke who moved from Winona, Minnesota to Walsh County, North Dakota and Valentine Eichman, who settled Pine Creek, Wisconsin.


















Ugoszcz Parish is in the modern day Powiat (District or County) of Bytowski and was made up of the Studzienice (Community or Borough) Gminy.
