Maszk and Prondzynski Families

The Andrew Maszk and Michael Prondzinski families are related through Catherine Maszk who was Andrew Maszk sister and Michael Prondzinski wife.

The Prondzynski surname probably comes from the village of Prondzonka, which is in Ugoszcz Parish, which is also known as Bernsdorf in German.

ANDRZEJ MASZK

Andreas Maszk was born to Joannes Maszk and Katharina Breza (Brzeska) on November 20, 1839, in Czarndombrow (Czarna Dombrowa), Ugoszcz Parish, Poland. Ugoszcz is just south of Bytów (Bütow) Poland.

The village where Andreas was born is known as Czarndombrow, Zarndamerow, Czarna Dombrowa in Polish and was known as Sonnenwalde in German which translates as beautiful wood.

Andrew’s wife was Ludovika Palubicki, daughter of Josephus Von Palubicki and Marianne Wantoch. Ludowika was born on May 20, 1840. Andres and Ludwika were married on February 07, 1865 in Ugoszcz Parish, Poland.

They emigrated from what was then West Prussia in March of 1868. They landed in Quebec, Canada on May 1, 1868 and came by train to Winona, MN, where several children were born. Andrew’s sister, Katherine was also in Winona with her husband Michael Prondzinski.

The ships list shows they were from Sammier which could be Sominy or Sommin in German. The family looks like they lost their first two children between 1868 and 1870 when they appeared on the census in the city of Winona, Minnesota.

In reference to Andrzej Maszk the records for Grosse Ile Canada list among the burials that of a two year old listed as being from the ship Leibig named Albert Matecki or Matetzki, both spellings are used, who died at sea. I could find no other passangers on the Leibig with names even near these spellings. I am a descendant of Andrzej Maszk.
